Single Subject Academic Tutoring

This is our most popular solution. Our program is designed to help students master the concepts of a given subject. For older students we use the class curriculum and provide supplemental materials when necessary. For our younger students we use interactive and high-interest materials. For all students, we teach to individual learning styles and help students gain confidence in their subject.

Our tutors go beyond simply teaching material. We create learning environments that engage the student and makes learning an exciting and rewarding process. While our programs vary depending on subject matter and grade level, our process is as follows:

Assessment

We attain feedback from parents before meeting with students. This helps us choose the right tutor for your child. Your tutor then conducts an informal assessment during your child's first tutoring session. This helps us individualize your child's tutoring program. Our communication with parents continues during the tutoring process, with progress reports at regular intervals.

Mastery of the Material

Our goal is to help your child master the subject he or she struggles in. We approach each student's tutoring program as steps on a ladder toward success. We start by strengthening and reviewing past skills, often taking a step down on the ladder to ensure that these are strong and solid. When we move forward one step at a time. Our goal with each student is to ensure total understanding of the material. At the top of the ladder we preview upcoming material so your child is not only confident in the classroom, but confident to move on to next year's curriculum with ease.

Test Preparation

We teach students that test-taking is part of the learning process. We help students prepare for tests. We teach them useful study skills including how to make their own study guides, how to use flashcards and how to budget their time so that they don't need to 'cram' before a test. We introduce and teach a variety of test strategies for all types of tests; and we help even the most anxious students begin to see test-taking as a step in the process they can take with confidence.

Organizational Skills

The cornerstone of our program is to reinforce organizational skills in every session. Our tutors help their students design study routines at home, create workspaces that are distraction-free, learn to use daily planners for assignments, and calendaring systems for upcoming tests and projects. In each session we work toward giving students the skills to become self-sufficient learners.
